The Elder Abuse Prevention Association (EAPA) is an association of advocates, practitioners, researchers, and supporters dedicated to protecting the safety, security, and dignity of Australia’s most vulnerable citizens.   It was established in 2002 to achieve a clearer understanding of abuse and provide direction and leadership to prevent it.

Database to Track Elder Abuse

A year-long joint venture between the Elder Abuse Prevention Association and Melbourne IT Mentor has produced an innovative and direct initiative to respond to and prevent the abuse of older Australians.

EAPA is pleased to announce that our 4th National Conference on Elder Abuse will be held in Melbourne, Australia from 1st - 3rd October 2008.

The conference venue will be the Quest East St.Kilda Function Centre, which is conveniently located at 441 Inkerman Street, St.Kilda East.

Nomination for 2007 Logie Awards
Congratulations to Lateline - ABC TV on it's nomination for a Logie Award in the category of "Most Outstanding News Coverage".   The Lateline story on "Sexual Abuse of the Elderly", which was produced with the assistance of  family members of one victim, a whistleblower and EAPA, became instrumental in raising public awareness about the issue of elder abuse in residential care facilities.   The program also prompted legislation enacting the first mandatory reporting laws in Australia, effective from 1 July 2007.
